Dr. Timothy Farrell is Professor of Medicine and Geriatrics Division Associate Chief for Age-Friendly Care at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah.  He is also a Physician Investigator at the VA Salt Lake City Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center. He received his A.B. from Dartmouth College and his M.D. from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, followed by family medicine residency and geriatric medicine training at Brown University. He is a previous recipient of a HRSA Geriatric Academic Career Award (GACA), is a Tideswell Emerging Leaders in Aging Scholar, and currently serves as a co-investigator on the University of Utah Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). From 2016 - 2022, Dr. Farrell served as Director of the University of Utah Health Interprofessional Education (IPE) Program.  He is an American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Fellow and serves as Chair of the AGS Ethics Committee.  He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, AGS Geriatrics Review Syllabus, Journal for Healthcare Quality, and Gerontology.  His work in medical ethics includes leading the 2017 AGS position statement on socially isolated "unbefriended" or "unrepresented" older adults, surveying the AGS membership regarding their views on physician-assisted suicide, and leading an AGS position statement and companion manuscript regarding ethical allocation of limited health care resources during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Dr. Farrell has represented the AGS in advising CDC, the National Academies, and the Biden-Harris COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force on vaccinating vulnerable populations, including homebound older adults.  He is currently co-PI on an AGS subaward under a Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS) contract with the CDC to increase adult vaccination rates (across all vaccines) in this country, called Improving Adult Immunization Rates for COVID19, Influenza, and Routine Adult Vaccinations through Partnerships and Medical Subspeciality Professional Societies.
